Again in 2009, Ars wrote about what was being reported as a leaked trailer for the then-upcoming Left 4 Useless 2, saying the footage “appears to be like prefer it’s straight from a high-gloss motion film.” As we speak, we have to provide an essential replace to this significant, 17-year-old story: The trailer “leak” was orchestrated by Valve itself.
That information comes courtesy of former Valve author Chet Faliszek, who stated in a newly posted video about lower strains within the recreation that “for Left 4 Useless 2 with the ESRB… we leaked our trailer forward of time as a result of they would not allow us to launch the trailer.”
Faliszek is after all referring to the Leisure Software program Score Board, the self-regulating business group that since 1994 has provided typically questionable age-appropriateness scores for hundreds of video games submitted to its purview. Whereas many smaller and/or online-focused recreation makers skip out on getting these scores lately, on the time, any writer that needed house on main retailers’ cabinets wanted to undergo the ESRB’s requirements.
