Summary: Electron-phonon coupling has been a central subject in condensed matter physics for many years, and firstprinciples strategies have demonstrated outstanding success in quantitatively capturing its function in all kinds of bodily phenomena and supplies. Standard calculations of electron-phonon coupling usually assume that phonons have infinite lifetimes, however phonons can exhibit finite lifetimes on account of anharmonic phonon-phonon interactions. On this work, we derive an expression for the electron-phonon coupling scattering charges together with the consequences of anharmonic three-phonon interactions, which result in phonon dephasing and finite phonon lifetimes. We additionally describe a first-principles implementation of this anharmonic electron-phonon coupling which will be seamlessly built-in inside current workflows for the analysis of electron-phonon and phonon-phonon coupling interactions. Lastly, we current calculations of electron-phonon scattering charges together with phonon dephasing in a variety of supplies, and talk about the totally different microscopic mechanisms by which anharmonic phonons affect electron-phonon coupling. This research establishes the significance of finite phonon lifetimes within the analysis of electron-phonon coupling, and supplies a platform to discover these results in a variety of supplies and phenomena.
