Tokyo-based optical quantum startup OptQC Corp. and telecommunications large NTT, Inc. have signed a capital and enterprise alliance settlement to speed up the event and commercialization of a fault-tolerant, 1-million-qubit-class optical quantum pc. Below the settlement, NTT will make a strategic fairness funding in OptQC to determine a medium- to long-term collaborative framework spanning {hardware} structure design, provide chain growth, and real-world enterprise implementation.

The alliance expands upon a preliminary analysis collaboration signed in November 2025. As a part of the renewed settlement, the 2 organizations have launched a joint analysis undertaking working by way of fiscal yr 2027 to determine the architectural design and core part applied sciences required for a 1-million-qubit system. Analysis will give attention to scaling bodily qubit counts utilizing wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM), designing fault-tolerant optical architectures, and integrating NTT’s optical communications, knowledge middle, and IOWN (Modern Optical and Wi-fi Community) applied sciences with OptQC’s continuous-variable photonic quantum computing platform.

FY2026–FY2027 FY2028 FY2029–FY2030
• System Structure & WDM Design • 10,000-Qubit Prototype Verification • Built-in Quantum-Classical Software program
• Quantum Mild Supply & Amplification • Buyer Proof-of-Idea (PoC) Initiatives • Fault-Tolerant 1M-Qubit Platform
• Provide Chain & Co-Creation Partnerships • {Hardware} Deployment at Information Middle Hubs • Industrial Use Case Rollouts

The businesses outlined a phased enterprise and know-how roadmap concentrating on full 1-million-qubit fault tolerance by FY2030:

FY2026–FY2027: Full the system structure and key part designs for the 1-million-qubit platform; provoke co-creation tasks with potential enterprise customers; and assemble a home provide chain for photonic elements.

FY2028: Deploy a ten,000-qubit-class optical quantum system to conduct Proof-of-Idea (PoC) tasks with business companions throughout finance, manufacturing, and power sectors.

FY2029: Launch a unified software program platform enabling hybrid quantum-classical computing execution and validate end-user functions.

FY2030: Notice a fault-tolerant, 1-million-qubit-class optical quantum pc for business manufacturing.

Spun out of the College of Tokyo’s Furusawa Laboratory in 2024, OptQC operates its first optical quantum processing unit, “MoQuren,” on the Nationwide Institute of Superior Industrial Science and Expertise’s (AIST) G-QuAT facility, serving as a key module for Japan’s ABCI-Q quantum-classical hybrid infrastructure. By leveraging room-temperature optical entanglement, time-domain multiplexing, and NTT’s optical amplification and wave-guided mild sources, the alliance goals to beat cryogenic and scaling obstacles inherent to solid-state modalities.
